Alumni Banner Carriers at Graduation
The City High graduation ceremony, now held at the Xtreme Arena in Coralville, includes a very special tradition where alumni from past years represent their class in a parade before the new class of graduates gets announced. This memorable tradition symbolically leads the new graduating class into their soon-to-be status of alumni and into the next phase of their lives. The banner carriers have become another one of the many endearing City High traditions.
This tradition was started by the graduating class of 1997 who wanted to organize something unique for their graduation ceremony. These students worked with the Alumni Association and school administration to find a graduate from each class, starting with 1940. This proved to be a great addition, and since then this annual reunion of alumni at graduation has become another one of the many endearing City High traditions.
Nowadays, the City High Alumni Association continues to lead the planning for this project and searches for a representative from each class – spanning many generations and over 75 different class years. If you are interested in representing your class at a future graduation ceremony, please fill out the contact form below. Requests are taken on a first come first serve basis each year, and priority is given to individuals who have a relative graduating at the ceremony.
